How to Run ESO 2006 or VCF 2000 in Windows 7, 8 or Vista (32 or 64 bit any version) via XP Mode using Virtual PC, VMware Player or VMLite OR try the demo from the cloud on any Windows PC, Apple® PC or IPad® at https://use.cloudshare.com/Pro/ShareEnv/JITXR2L4KMVG
Both ESO 2000 (Update 2006) and VCF 2000 are legacy 16 bit applications. As such, they will run on any 32 bit version of Windows 7, 8 or Vista. During the installation, you will be instructed to personalize your desktop to "Windows Classic" to make them display properly.
ESO 2000 (Update 2006) and VCF 2000 will not run natively on any 64 bit Version of Windows. The following provides solutions for running these programs on the 64 bit versions of Windows.
Microsoft Solution:
Windows XP Mode (vhd file) with Windows Virtual PC (which are free downloads) requires Windows 7 Professional or Windows 7 Ultimate. This allows you to run multiple Windows environments, such as Windows XP Mode, from your Windows 7 desktop.
You may Download Windows XP Mode (vhd file) and/or Virtual PC from -
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
VMware Solution:
VMware Player (a free download) allows you to create an XP Professional Virtual machine on any Windows system provided you have a legal copy of a non-OEM XP disc or iso image file. (OR it will import Microsoft's Windows XP Mode if you are running Windows 7 Professional or Windows 7 Ultimate).
You may download VMware Player from -
http://www.vmware.com/products/player/
VMLite Solution:
VMLite (also a free download) will automatically detect the Microsoft Windows XP Mode (vhd file) if it has already been downloaded (see above) and installed to your computer. While it will install completely on Windows 7 Home premium, this appears to violate the terms on the Microsoft license for the xp mode files - as legally you are required to have either Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate.
You may download VMLite from -
http://www.vmlite.com/index.php/products
If your version of Windows 7 is Home Premium you may upgrade to either Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate at nominal cost. You want the "Anytime Upgrade" - Go to Amazon.com
You can also purchase directly from Microsoft.
In our testing of these three solutions, we found that all work well, but prefer VMLite for ease of installation and performance. And it requires less manual tweaking of settings than the VMware Player.
