How to Run ESO 2006 or VCF 2000 in WindowsVista, 7, 8 or 10 (64 bit versions)
using VMware Player or VMLite

Both ESO 2000 (Update 2006) and VCF 2000 are legacy 16 bit applications which will not run natively on any Windows 64 bit program. However, they will run on any 32 bit version of Windows Vista, 7, 8 or 10. During the installation, you will be instructed to personalize your desktop to "Windows Classic for Windows Vista or 7" to make them display properly. For Windows 8 or 10 (32 bit), you must personalize using the "High Contrast White theme".

As the ESO 2000 (Update 2006) and VCF 2000 will not run natively on any 64 bit Version of Windows - The following provides our preferred solutions for running these programs on the 64 bit versions of Windows.

VMware Solution:
VMware Workstation Player (a free download) allows you to create an XP Professional Virtual machine on any Windows system provided you have a legal copy of a 32 bit Windows XP disc or iso image file. (You may also use a Windows 7 (32 bit) or Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 (32 bit) disk for installation.

You may download VMware Workstation Player from -
https://my.vmware.com/en/web/vmware/free#desktop_end_user_computing/vmware_workstation_player/12_0

If you have to purchase Windows for use in VMware Workstation Player, be sure it is a 32 bit version.

In our testing of these solutions, we found that VM Player & VMLite both work very well. VMLite is the preferred option for Windows 7 as the installation is simpler and the programs run faster. VMware Workstation Player is preferred for Windows 8, 8.1 or 10.

VMLite Solution:
VMLite is a free download that uses the Microsoft Windows XP Mode file to install Windows XP in a virtual machine. It will install completely on Windows 7 (64 bit version).

You may download the VMLite workstation from -
http://www.vmlite.com/index.php?option=com_rokdownloads&view=folder&Itemid=153
You will need to register to download the VMLiteWorkstationSetup.exe

The Windows XP Mode file - WindowsXPMode_en-us.exe - can be downloaded from http://www.mydigitallife.info/windows-7-virtual-pc-and-windows-xp-mode-official-direct-download-links/ or from http://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=8002

After installing the VMLite workstation, use the "VMLite Wizard" to start the installation and browse to WindowsXPMode_en-us.exe file as shown below:

You can then copy the ESO 2006 or VCF 2000 installation files from your 64 bit operating system to the Windows XP desktop.

Please note that Microsoft's Windows XP Mode license is only for computers using Windows 7 Professional or Windows 7 Ultimate.

Alternatively, you may want to investigate the use of the 32 bit Windows Server 2008 x86 for use as a virtual machine in a cloud server, e.g. a Virtual Private Cloud On Demand, like that offered by VMware vCloud Air.

During the installation of the ESO or VCF in your virtual machine, you must personalize your desktop to "Windows Classic" for Windows Vista or 7 to make them display properly. For Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 (32 bit), you must personalize the desktop using the "High Contrast White theme".
